Dr. Alice Biggar: The Tysiachyni Family
The 411
Here are some more details about the great work our God is doing in bringing a Ukrainian family to settle in Fort Walton Beach.
More than 3.5 million people have fled to Poland since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24. One of those families fled to Poland from Sumy, a state that shares a border with Russia. Their last name is Tysiachyni. Roman and Viktoriia are the parents. Their sons are 17-year-old Kiril and 10-year-old Timor. Kiril and I have been communicating by email because he is the only one in the family that speaks English. The family is coming through a United States government program called United for Ukraine. Shalimar team is partnering with Samaritan’s Purse to bring the family to Fort Walton Beach. Samaritan’s Purse is arranging travel and paying for the family’s travel expenses.
They arrived yesterday, August 17. A house has been rented and we will be furnishing it. We plan to stock the pantry and refrigerator. Our team will be helping them obtain social security cards, employment authorization cards, and eventually jobs. The family will be taken to ESL classes. We will show them how to register Timor for school and we will help Kiril prepare for college.
My fellow team members are Beth Russell, Renata Steiner, Wendy Thomas, Brad Bradford, Tony Mallini, and Scott Newbold. These people have been working hard to prepare a home for the family. They are a dream team, however; we need your help as well.
We have two requests.
The first is the most essential. PRAY for the Tysiachyni’s. They need safe travel and adjustment to our climate and customs. What if you had never experienced Florida in August? They need jobs, new friends, and healing from the horror of war. They may not know Jesus. Pray that our service to them will demonstrate Jesus’ love in a powerful way that causes the entire family to embrace Jesus as Savior.
The second request is GIVE. The family will come with little. They are bringing their whole life in four suitcases. They will need food, clothes, furniture, kitchen items, a computer, a car, and a washer and dryer-just to name a few needs. Please ask God to show you what HE would have you give to help this family. Our outpouring of financial support will be a demonstration of Jesus’ love. Our team will use your gifts to purchase necessary items to prepare the house for their arrival. Please mark your offering with the word UKRAINE in the memo line. Or if you give online there is a place to designate your gift.
There will also be volunteer opportunities to help the family listed in an upcoming Blog post.
With God's help and enabling and your prayers and gifts, our Shalimar Church can welcome the Tysiachyni’s in the name of Jesus for the glory and fame of our God.
Jesus Challenges us:
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger and you invited me in; I needed clothes and you clothed me; I was sick and you looked after me; I was in prison and you visited me.
The King will reply, “Truly I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
Matthew 25: 35-40
