God Has the Final Word!

We have and, to some extent, are still enduring one of the craziest times in history. In such a time, we look for a person to reassure us and say, “It will be over soon.”  Who will have that word we long to hear? Will this final word come from a doctor? A health professional? Will it be an elected official? A media member? A bishop? A pastor?

This Sunday is Easter, and as we celebrate the risen Christ, we will hear again, amid crazy times, GOD HAS THE FINAL WORD!

The story of Easter proclaims God has the FIRST Word! Genesis records the first Word of God as “let there be light.”  This would be the story of the creation of physical light. The coming of Jesus into the world would bring the spiritual light. The Word of the risen Christ on Easter morning is a vivid reminder that God has the first word both physically and spiritually! Jesus is the light of the world and in him is no darkness, the Gospel of John announces in John 1:9.

The message of Easter shines forth that God has the TRUE Word! My grandmother used to say, “if the world is on fire, the truth will stand.”  The words of Jesus are true. He teaches truth about sin, the Kingdom of God, abundant life, and eternal life. He told His disciples He would die and be raised three days later. No one, not even his disciples, grasped this truth until the resurrection morning. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6) God has the True Word!

And the Easter message convinces us that God has the FINAL WORD. The resurrection is the final crescendo word of hope! Jesus’ resurrection brings victory over death and evil. Through this miracle, we know Jesus is indeed LORD! Jesus offers this final word at the tomb of Lazarus in John 11:25, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live.” The triumph of Easter proclaims God has the FINAL WORD!

Covid-19, division, and hatred have a word for a season, but it is a temporary word. GOD HAS THE FINAL WORD! HAVE A GREAT EASTER! Hope to see you Sunday as we share the Greatest words of all! HE IS RISEN INDEED!

Shalom,
Philip
