Spring in My Discipleship Steps

My feet do not always touch the ground these days, and my steps are light! I am overly excited about discipleship opportunities picking up through our church. The dream of having abundant discipleship options and choices is beginning to unfold. You can see it starting to happen before our very eyes!
Two months ago, I seriously considered expanding my title from Lead Pastor to Lead Discipleship Pastor. After bouncing this off a few respected people, I decided not to take this action as they preferred just Lead Pastor. I do let you know I considered this to communicate how serious I am about growing discipleship through our church.
We can make being a disciple more complicated than Jesus intended. A disciple is basically a "totally committed Christian following Jesus, learning from Jesus, and becoming more like Jesus every day." Becoming a Christian takes only a few moments to acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Savior. The becoming of a Disciple is a journey of a lifetime. We never finish becoming more like Jesus on this earth. Therefore…we never finish becoming a disciple. We do not stop at becoming a disciple! We are to make disciples.
Jesus said making disciples is our mission and goal in saying, "Therefore, GO and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age," Matthew 28:19-20. Jesus did not say STOP and meet about it! He said, GO! Church, these are our marching orders!
The spring in my step is because discipleship groups and choices are popping up all around Shalimar in the upcoming weeks. Commit to a study, small group, and/or ongoing classes. Growing as a disciple and making disciples will put a spring in your step!
Please read the Beacon so that you will not miss out on some of these new discipleship opportunities. Also, check our website for frequent updates. New opportunities will be emerging throughout the upcoming months!
