Seniors on a Roll

Shalimar UMC has been a place for active seniors for years. If you are over 50 and interested in becoming engaged in the church's life, you have many options: choirs, Sunday school classes, discipleship groups, service opportunities, and outreach events, to name a few. Our Friendship Club, offering monthly fellowship meals and outings, has been a staple of church life for 30 years (this September). We are so grateful to all the leaders who have kept it going each year and for the leaders who are dedicated to it now like Ollie Faye Flint and Jon and Kathie Sheperd. The Friendship Club continues to be the signature event for social gatherings midweek. Our one+One Singles group offers time every Monday evening for unattached folks to come together for games, fellowship, food, and regularly scheduled outings to restaurants. We also have our Threads of Love knitting group who make knitting with others a lot of fun.
Recently, other people have taken the initiative to add social offerings to the life of the church. Nancy Kahrs has organized a "Lunch Bunch" group to go out to lunch with each other. So far there are about 40 people involved. Then last Saturday (May 18), the Joy Group had their
first pickleball event. About 20 people were there, and they all had a "dilly" of a time! We are now talking about organizing games every other week because it's fun for people of all ages.
Our senior ministry offers something for everyone, and we are blessed to have so many options for people to get to know one another. If you are interested in becoming involved, contact the coordinators below:
Or you can call me, and I will be happy to help you find your place in our ministries for seniors.
