• Rev. Dr. Philip McVay - Lead Pastor

    Started Position: July, 2014

Family: My amazing wife of 29 years is Karen. We have three beautiful daughters and two sons-in-law we quickly embraced into our family. Mallory is married to Brian and they live in Birmingham. Brooke is recently married to Matt and they live in Pensacola. Our third daughter, Haley, is a senior at Auburn University.

Favorite Scripture: Isaiah 40:31 - Old Testament, John 10:10 - New Testament

Favorite Movies: I love underdog stories like Rocky, Rudy, We Are Marshall, and The Rookie. The Fugitive would be my favorite non-sports movie.

Favorite Books:  I once heard the leading book sellers are The Bible, cookbooks, and diet books. Well I have never bought a cookbook or diet book but I do understand why the Bible remains the best seller. The reading of the Bible never becomes old.  My favorite book of theology is The Theology of Hope by Jurgen Moltmann. For more personal growth I read with a district lay team, John Wooden's book The Seven Principles That Shaped His Life and Will Change Yours by Pat Williams.

Loves: My wife, daughters, family, I take sports way too seriously (please forgive me in advance), and running.

Why I Do What I Do:
Being a pastor is a great calling and I cannot imagine being or doing anything else! I love what I do. I love the opportunity to lead the church to have a great impact for the Kingdom. I like what Bill Hybels says about the church..."the local church is the hope for the world." The local church offers hope because we point people to Jesus. I am inspired when God's people go forward trusting God and make a huge difference in the lives of people. Also, I do what I do because I get to hang out with inspiring people with amazing stories. I have been a pastor since age nineteen and every day still feels new and hopeful. Most of all, I am grateful God called me early in life for I am still a work in progress. Ministry and the possibilities are boundless. There is a challenge and opportunity at every corner!

Why I Do What I Do: On a hot day in the first week of June 2003 I was sitting on a concrete slab in Juarez, Mexico, during a mission trip when I heard a whisper and saw an image. The whisper was “This is what I made you for.” The image was a pastor. I believe Jesus Christ is the hope of the world. Since the Church is His Body, it is through the local church that God is transforming earth and heaven. I have committed my life to preaching the gospel, making disciples, and equipping the saints for ministry in the world.
